I launched Berklee's Creative Technology Knowledge Base

In 2020, after Berklee College of Music transitioned to remote learning due to the pandemic, I launched a digital knowledge base for Berklee’s Creative Technology Center. As a Peer Tutor, I saw the need for centralized, accessible tutorials to support students and alumni navigating creative software in a fully virtual environment.

The Challenge

With the sudden shift to online learning, many students lost access to in-person help for technical issues and creative tools like DAWs and design software. There was no centralized resource for quick, clear answers—just scattered documentation and overwhelmed support teams.

Strategy and Approach

  • Proposed the idea of a student-written knowledge base to the Creative Technology Center leadership.

  • Focused on writing tutorials that were:

    • Beginner-friendly

    • Contextualized for Berklee workflows

    • Covering a wide range of tools: Pro Tools, Logic Pro X, Ableton Live, Premiere Pro, Photoshop, and more

  • Prioritized clarity and accessibility—breaking down complex tools into step-by-step guides.

  • Encouraged and coordinated contributions from fellow student employees to expand coverage.

Execution and Process

  • Personally wrote over 50 blog posts covering music tech and creative software.

  • Created templates and style guidelines to keep the content consistent.

  • Collaborated with the CTC team to upload and organize articles within a searchable, user-friendly platform.

  • Promoted the resource across student networks and within tutoring sessions.

Results and Impact

  • The knowledge base became a go-to resource for students and alumni during and beyond the remote learning period.

  • Some individual posts received over 10,000 views, helping hundreds of students solve technical issues independently.

  • The platform reduced support request volume and enabled a scalable, peer-driven support system.

  • It’s still in use today and has become a lasting part of Berklee’s digital support ecosystem.

Takeaways

  • Student-led solutions can fill critical gaps in institutional support, especially in times of crisis.

  • Writing technical content exercised my skills in communicating complex ideas clearly and efficiently.

  • Building and maintaining a knowledge base gave me experience with information architecture, content strategy, and collaborative writing workflows.
